A frightening new weapons technology will let police and others tag people and identify them through DNA. 

The High Velocity DNA Tagging System consists of special guns that will allow police to tag and trace others.

The system works like this: A shooter fires a pellet into a person; the pellet contains a special synthetic DNA that enters the blood stream; police or anybody else can later test the person to see if it is the correct individual.

Over a year ago, in May of 2012, the Wall Street Journal reported on a Stanford University study. Daniel Madigan, a marine ecologist who led the study, was quoted as saying, “The tuna packaged it up (the radiation) and brought it across the world’s largest ocean. We were definitely surprised to see it at all and even more surprised to see it in every one we measured.”

Another member of the study group, Marine biologist Nicholas Fisher at Stony Brook University in New York State reported, “We found that absolutely every one of them had comparable concentrations of cesium 134 and cesium 137.”

Rule Cyber-Britannia: MoD to recruit hundreds of IT warriors for cyber task force

Britain’s Defense Ministry has announced it is creating a military cyber unit and has welcomed tech-savvy hackers to consider taking the Queen’s virtual shilling in a recruitment drive starting October.

The UK is channeling part of its military budget on recruiting hundreds of computer experts to constitute the new Joint Cyber Reserve Unit, the country’s Defense Secretary, Philip Hammond, announced Sunday.

For the first time, the UK’s would-be cyber warriors will be tasked with offensive missions.

"In response to the growing cyber threat, we are developing a full-spectrum military cyber capability, including a strike capability, to enhance the UK's range of military capabilities," AFP reported Hammond as saying.

Anti-monarchy protest in Spain

Thousands of Spaniards have taken to the streets of the capital to protest against the country’s monarchy.

The march was held on Saturday in Madrid, where people called for the abdication of King Juan Carlos, an end to the monarchy and an establishment of a republic.

Protesters walked with banners reading, “Checkmate to the King,” and chanted, “Tomorrow, Spain will be a Republic.”

Critics consider the monarchy to be illegal since it was appointed by General Francisco Franco.

Named Galaxy Zoo 2, the project is the second phase of a crowdsourcing effort to help categorize the galaxies in our universe.

Crowdsourcing is becoming a new and useful tool for scientists. While computers are good at automatically measuring properties such as the size and color of galaxies, they're unable to tackle more challenging characteristics. For example, computers have a hard time determining the shape and structure of galaxies. That's where citizen scientists come in.

Up to 146 million risk poverty if EU’s austerity drags on

As EU countries battle the financial crisis with austerity, average citizens get hurt while unemployment rises and social programs disappear. 

Up to 146 million Europeans are at risk of falling into poverty by 2025, the head of Oxfam’s EU office told RT.

Garlic may help prevent lung cancer: study

Eating raw garlic at least twice a week may help prevent lung cancer, according to new research conducted in China. 

But one expert says while garlic may be helpful, he wouldn’t rely on its cancer-prevention power based on this study alone.

Researchers from the Jiangsu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention interviewed 1,424 people with lung cancer and 4,543 healthy subjects using a standard questionnaire. They found raw garlic consumption at least twice a week to be “inversely associated” with the disease.

Australia opens public hearings into cases of child abuse

Australia has opened public hearings into cases of institutional child abuse in churches and other public institutions amid allegations against several organizations.

Chief commissioner Justice Peter McClellan said on Monday that thousands of people have so far reported abuse in places of worship, orphanages, community groups and schools.

“It is now well known that the sexual abuse of children has been widespread in the Australian community; however, the full range of institutions in which it has occurred is not generally understood,” McClellan stated.

“Many of the stories we are hearing will shock many people”.

New Comet Discovered: Lovejoy Will Add to “Comet Lineup” in Winter Skies

Move over Comet ISON. You’ve got company.  

Australian amateur astronomer Terry Lovejoy, discoverer of three previous comets, including the famous, long-tailed sungrazer C/2011 W3 (Lovejoy), just added a 4th to his tally.
This new comet will add to a lineup of comets that should grace early November skies in the northern hemisphere: Comets ISON, Encke and now the new Lovejoy.

The discovery of C/2013 R1 Lovejoy was announced on Sept. 9 after two nights of photographic observations by Lovejoy with an 8-inch (20 cm) Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector. When nabbed, the comet was a faint midge of about 14.5 magnitude crossing the border between Orion and Monoceros. Subsequent observations by other amateur astronomers peg it a bit brighter at 14.0 with a small, condensed coma.

Yet this cross-linking healing mechanism usually requires an external stimulus, which means that these materials aren't necessarily practical. In Spain, scientists created self-healing silicone elastomers using silver nanoparticles. Unfortunately, an applied external pressure was needed to make them work.

Syrian rebels murdered Catholics for refusing to convert to Islam [video]

The black jihadist flag is flying over the Christian town of Maaloula in Syria as the Army’s battle with opposition militants continues to rage.

A dramatic report by RT’s Maria Finoshina illustrates that while there had been talk that the rebels had abandoned the ancient town, whose inhabitants still speak the language of Jesus, snipers still occupy high positions.

As the BBC’s Jeremy Bowen confirms, the opposition militants who first attacked the town when a suicide bomber killed himself at a nearby checkpoint are from the terrorist al-Nusra Front, which killed US troops in Iraq and swore allegiance to Al-Qaeda earlier this year. FSA militants are fighting alongside the al-Nusra insurgents.

The US consulate in the Afghan province of Herat was attacked resulting in at least six killed, four of them attackers, after a car bomb explosion was followed by a gun fight between militants and security forces.

Five Taliban suicide bombers entered the consulate building, the Taliban confirmed to the BBC. Four were able to explode themselves before the fifth was apprehended.

An Afghan army spokesman told the BBC that the initial blast had damaged the consulate's outer defences and allowed the attackers to breach the perimeter and begin shooting at the compound's buildings. A spokesman for the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in Herat, a western province adjacent to Iran.

"This latest research suggests that certain immune responses elicited by a new vaccine may also have the ability to completely remove HIV from the body."
