Mystery signal from Comet 67P confirmed by European Space Agency. [Updated: first close-up pictures]

The European Space Agency (ESA) today [11-11-2014] confirmed that it was receiving a mysterious signal from Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. In a post on its live streaming website, it described the signal as a “mystery song” and uploaded a recording with the caption: “Hear our comet sing.”

The confirmation follows months of rumors that the Rosetta mission was originally sent to explore a radio signal from the comet first detected 20 years ago. The November 12 landing of the Rosetta mission’s Philae probe will be live streamed to the world.

The ESA’s surprise announcement hints that the significance of the landing may go well beyond the historic first of humanity landing a probe on a comet.

Vladimir Putin is known for his sharp wit, but musings on love are a relative novelty. In an unexpected remark Friday, the Russian president spoke of the “meaning of life,” saying that for him “in general” it is love that matters.

Miscommunication at the hospital led to Dallas' Ebola patient's release just with antibiotics. After being released, he has been in contact with dozens of people who are being tracked, 5 students in isolation now in their homes.  The first patient diagnosed in the United States with the Ebola virus has been identified as Thomas Eric Duncan from Liberia. 

Duncan, identified by The Associated Press, remained in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas on Wednesday in serious condition.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition Sunday from a home in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood of northeast Dallas. Duncan had sought treatment at the hospital two days earlier, but was sent home with antibiotics.

During that first visit, his sister told AP, Duncan informed emergency room workers that he was from Liberia, the West African nation hardest hit by Ebola.
“Regretfully that information was not fully communicated throughout the full team,” said Dr. Mark Lester, executive vice president of Texas Health Resources. Lester said the team thought Duncan had a "low-grade common viral disease."

The Vatican is ready to make a statement on extraterrestrial life

Extreme solar storm approaches Earth

A powerful solar flare sparked on an Earth-facing section of the sun. A subsequent coronal mass ejection is expected to reach our planet later in the week, possibly causing disruptions of communication and power grids.

The flare was unleashed by the sun on Wednesday and was estimated at X1.6, putting it in the strongest ‘extreme’ class of solar flares. It was launched from a sunspot called Active Region 2158 and was caught on camera by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory spacecraft, reports Space.com. The same region produced a smaller flare a day before that.

The flare was accompanied by the release of superhot plasma, a coronal mass ejection, with the cloud expected to reach Earth later on Friday. Luckily, most of it is expected to pass north of Earth, causing a relatively week solar storm. Power grids may experience some fluctuations, as the plasma would affect the planetary magnetic field, but it poses little danger either to anyone down here or to crew members of the International Space Station.

Astronauts Just Found Life In Outer Space

In what is a cool mainstream find, Russian cosmonauts have discovered LIFE clinging to the outside of the International Space Station. This is the first time living organisms have been found on the space station and scientists are not sure how it got there.

The Russian press agency ITAR-TASS is reporting something so surprising that I'm having a hard time believing it: Cosmonauts have found microorganisms on the exterior of the International Space Station. Russian scientists are shocked by this discovery and can't really explain how it is possible.

According to the chief of the Russian ISS orbital mission, Vladimir Solovjev, these findings "are absolutely unique.
We have found traces of sea plankton and microscopic particles on the illuminator surface. This should be studied further."

Some Western states and Kiev rushed to find Russian involvement in the MH17 crash having no evidence to back their claims, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister told RT. He invited Ukraine to answer 10 questions to prove their commitment to an impartial probe.

Speaking to RT, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov has criticized Western countries for jumping to conclusions just “24 hours after the crash” while there is no evidence.

“They try to show to the whole world that we are responsible for the crash. It is very strange that without any evidence my colleagues from western media would like to find somebody who is responsible for the crash,” Antonov said. “It seems to me that this is part of information warfare which has been started against the Russian Federation and armed forces.”

US Air Force admits weather manipulation using HAARP

For the first time ever, scientists have measured the corkscrew nature of a bright flash of light emitted from a dying star collapsing into a black hole. The new findings shed light on an event that happened almost 11 billion years ago.

For the first time, scientists have discovered an Earth-size alien planet in the habitable zone of its host star, an "Earth cousin" that just might have liquid water and the right conditions for life.

The newfound planet, called Kepler-186f, was first spotted by NASA's Kepler space telescope and circles a dim red dwarf star about 490 light-years from Earth.
