Russia to ban advertising of medications on TV and radio

The draft law to ban advertising of medications on television and radio, as well as in all non-specialized print media was submitted to the State Duma.

The bill was authored by State Duma deputy Andrei Belyakov.

Belyakov believes that the advertising medical devices and drugs should be possible only in specialized publications, as well as in the places where medical and pharmaceutical activities are held, such as exhibitions, conferences, seminars, etc.

According to the author of the bill, the proposed initiative should become the next step, designed to ensure the protection of Russian people's health. Citizens prefer to follow colorful advertising, rather than medical recommendations. The bill is to regulate the uncontrolled and dangerous use of drugs and to ensure the accuracy of provided information about medicines.
